FdSc Sustainable Marine Technology (subject to approval)
Falmouth Marine School is an excellent centre for learner study based in the South West of the UK and the approaches to the English Channel, thus allowing learners to undertake study within a major maritime commercial centre. With a strong global move towards the development of sources of renewable and sustainable energy our learners have the potential to engage with a wide range of sectors in being at the forefront of this change.
The program has a focus on the development of sustainability within the maritime sector allowing learners the opportunity to study a broad reach of marine industries with a focus upon the drive to develop environmental sustainability in meeting the challenges that are driving the pressures of global change upon the environment.
The industries of Cornwall have a focus on fishing and shipping; leisure and commerce, ports and harbours; rivers and estuaries; coastal defence and flood management.
With a broad and varied industrial history, our learners have the opportunity to undertake wide ranging field study and research within a major marine environment

Entry requirements
School leavers:
Functional Skills GCSE (or equivalent) L2 Literacy and L2 Numeracy
Minimum of Grade C/grade 4 in Maths, English Language and Science
AS/A Levels 64 UCAS tariff points to include A2 level in appropriate subjects
BTEC National Diploma/Extended Diploma/ L3 Diploma BTEC 90 Credit Diploma/Subsidiary Diploma 64 UCAS tariff points – MPP grades in an appropriate subject 64 UCAS tariff points – MM grades in an appropriate subject
Mature learners – By interview
Assessment
Assessment will take the form of written assignment, presentation, discussion and individual interview, and blogs.
Progression
On completion of the program, learners will be ready to move in to employment within the renewable energy, environmental and sustainability sectors.
There are also opportunities for progression to other HEI’s to complete a BSc/ MSc program of study.
