You’ll notice there is a large practical element to the course and you will spend a great deal of time in our dedicated Boatbuilding and Marine Engineering workshops, developing essential hand skills for working with a multitude of tools and materials utilised within the Marine Industry.

You’ll be able to gain first hand knowledge and experience to help you plan your next steps; to decide if Boatbuilding or Engineering suit you best.

What you will learn

This one-year foundation course will give you a great start towards a career as a Boatbuilder or Marine Engineer; you will learn about the working environment, the various materials, tools, techniques and the specific terminology used in the marine industry.

By gaining an introduction into the many elements that Boatbuilders and Marine Engineers rely on, you will be prepared for the more advanced and specialist skills that are taught in further dedicated Boatbuilding and Marine Engineering qualifications.

Entry requirements

There are no pre-set requirements for this course, suitability for this study programme will be determined during interview.

Assessment

You will be assessed through observation of practical exercises and assessments. and performance evidence.

Progression

Once you’ve finished the Performing Engineering Operations Level 2 course, you’ll have the fundementals required to move on to one one of the specialised Boatbuilding or Marine Engineering courses: Level 3 Boatbuilding Diploma (Advanced) Level 2 Marine Engineering Dipoma Level 3 Marine Engineering Diploma Level 3 Engineering Technology From there, the world is your oyster!
