Course information

Maritime & Coastguard Agency Approved Engines Course (MCAAEC) The objective of the AEC 2 course is to provide students, with theoretical knowledge and practical hands on experience of additional areas, as laid down in the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) AEC 2 syllabus. The aim is to enable them to meet the CoC requirements of the new common “Small Vessel” (Yachts, Tugs, Fishing Vessels, Workboats, Standby, Seismic Survey, Oceanographic Research Vessels and Government Patrol Vessels, of less than 3000 GT and Power Less than 9,000 kW with Unlimited Area of operation.

We are an approved delivery site for the Marine and Coastguard Agency.

AEC 2. You will gain knowledge on the function of components in a compression type refrigerant plant, legislative and management requirements within engineering operations, maintenance systems onboard, safe systems of work within an engineering environment, safe operations when undertaking lifting and/or slinging operations, electrical distribution systems, basic hydraulic systems, potable fresh water systems, sewage systems and gain the knowledge and skills to undertake basic maintenance on all systems.

Candidates must be aged 18 or over.

Successful achievement will be gained through satisfactory attendance for all of the learning outcomes, the completion of short assessments which may take the form of either a written, practical or VR assessment task for each of the learning outcomes and by the demonstration of practical ability within the workshop sessions. Certification will be awarded on completion of this programme of study.
