Marine Engineering Courses at Falmouth If the possibility of a career at sea – filled with challenges, job satisfaction and travel appeals to you, then maybe you should consider studying to become a marine engineer.

The course is predominantly a practical based programme. Focusing on giving learners the ability to service and maintain a wide variety of marine in board and outboard engines, alongside the propulsion systems commonly found in most marine vessels.

The workshop at Falmouth marine school is one of the largest marine specific training areas in the U.K, alongside a wide variety of specialist tools to perform maintenance and diagnostic processes on our industry endorsed equipment.

At level two, the course is focused around servicing and maintaining of marine mechanical systems and components. Successful completion of this programme will allow learners to progress onto the marine engineering level three course.

Choosing to study at Falmouth marine school will mean that you will be joining a college with 100 years of training and supporting the marine industry and learning from industry experts to give you the best start to your future career.

This one-year programme will give you an excellent insight into the inner working of marine engines and propulsion systems. You will also learn basic marine electrics, hydraulics and gain knowledge on construction principals and engineering processes related to the marine industry.

Entry requirements for external applicants and school leavers
• Three or more GCSEs at Grade 3 or above (1 grade 4 in Maths or English), or successful completion of a relevant Level 1 qualification.

Entry requirements for existing learners with the Cornwall College Group
• Successful completion of previous course and, where relevant, progress in maths and/or English.

As part of your course you will be required to carry out Work Experience and/or an Industry Placement. Falmouth is surrounded by a collection of industry leading companies that are willing to support and give information to any willing and keen future engineer.

You will be assessed through online assessment, practical assignments and through multi-choice exams.

Successful completion of this course will allow learners to progress onto level three and has been the starting point of many successful marine engineers. Whether it’s a career in the super yacht industry, shore side repairs, navy or merchant navy.
